A firewall is like the front door of your home. Without a door, burglars can get in. Without a firewall, your PC and everything in it, can be robbed.
You wouldn't have a house without a front door, so you shouldn't have a computer without Firewall software. The Firewall examines information traffic on the Internet. It detects and blocks any attempted access from the Internet that seems suspicious and keeps your PC safe from hackers. If you don't have a firewall on your computer, then people can
- hack into your system
- steal your identity
- delete important information
- send destructive viruses to you.

Firewall: Hardware or software programs that keep your files safe by blocking unauthorized access.
Hacker: A person who breaks into a computer system over the internet.
Virus: A program that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge.
Software: Systems software such as Windows operates the computer itself. Applications software such as word processing programmes allow you to work on the computer.
