  • If your statement shows unauthorised purchases, send a letter to the card issuer, detailing each questionable charge.

If you have clicked on an email or opened an attachment in a phishing attempt

  • Install a firewall
  • Install or update anti-virus and anti-spyware software
  • Run a full anti-virus and anti-spyware scan
  • Check all your online accounts - for example

    • eBay, Amazon, PayPal etc
    • email
    • bank accounts
    • ANYTHING for which you use an online password

If you have given out your personal identification information (your name, National Insurance number, or credit card number)

  • Get a copy of your credit report and check if any accounts have been opened in your name, without your consent
  • Notify your bank and credit card companies, asking them to contact you if they notice unusual activity
