Learn how to check your PC's security settings

The Windows Security Centre is a monitoring tool. You can use the Security Centre to check your PC's security settings and learn more about how to improve its security.

The Security Centre deals with three areas that Microsoft has identified as being essential to system security:

  • Firewall
  • Security updates
  • Virus Protection - database and software - set on automatic update
To open the Windows Security Centre, you select Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Security Center.
The Windows Security Centre shows you how well your PC is protected. In this case, the PC does not have the Windows Firewall turned on. To turn it on, you click this Windows Firewall link.
The Windows Firewall pop-up window is displayed.
To turn the Firewall on, you click this On button. Then you click OK to accept the changes.
